Most of these were written to learn & practice techniques in different styles (more to come). All vocals were recorded with actual mistakes. Some instruments (except Sleigh Bells) were digitally rendered with deliberate mistakes. Of course, I had some fun along the way, too. Remember, it’s PLAYING music.

Own Lone –  Lyric Copyright 2018, tune used without permission
This Goof came at an interesting time in my life.

Victor Vas – lyrics, vocal, Bass, Drum Loop manipulation
Johnny Reed -Hammond B3

Why?
I wanted to work up this kind of Drum and Bass gruuve. Also looking for something different on the B3. Sub Bass is also dialed in, but not sure if it’s too much.

Take Care of Business –  Lyric Copyright 2016, tune used without permission
A protest-solution tune written in 2014 and revised in 2016. I used Taj Mahal’s “Mind Your Own Business” (without permission) as a template for my lyrics.

Victor Vas – lyrics, upright piano, vocal
Johnny Reed -stomps, claps and jaws-harp

Why?
This is a goof both lyrically, and to play and mix a honky-tonk pianny. I’ve tried to keep it dry with a sparkle. The first solo is an half-time version of “Chop Sticks”. There are a number of other songs woven throughout… can you get them? How ’bout the Monk references?

Rainbow –  used without permission
This began as a simple arrangement my friend Maria. It blossomed
into so much more.

Victor Vas – vocal, Hammond B3, loop manipulation
Johnny Reed – bass

Why?
Maria wanted an accompaniment to “Over The Rainbow” so she could sing it. Bay Blue Farm, where I was living at the time, was moving to SC. I had to include Jennifer & the animals. Then there is the B3 work I enjoy. The intro to “Singing In the Rain” seemed appropriate at the start. Then the other references came out towards the end to tie it in better.

Dippin” –  Copyright 2020
A young Russian filly got this older man a thinkin’ like back in the Johnny Reed days, and another filly named Angie. Jessa inspired the moans. I must say, the gamut of responses has been wide.

Victor Vas – vocal, bass, loop manipularion
Johnny Reed – Hammond B3
Mona Rubin – moans

Why?
A number of things were played with in this tune. Songs are many times repetitively simple… I need practice with that. Also, taking the listener on a journey with few instruments… okay, plus extra vocals. But that’s another story. Bass and B3 chops always need more practice. Drum Loop and MIDI play are fun and challenging. After the real moans were sugested, it was a new path to play the moans like an instrument. Robyn, does it still sound like she’s barking?
